Principal's Notes
It was a week of mixed emotions as the School recently farewelled its Graduating Class of 2023. There was joy, sadness, trepidation, and excitement, mixed with a feeling of accomplishment. The School said goodbye to the departing Year 12’s with a series of special events in Week 2, including a Valedictory Chapel, a whole school Guard of Honour, and a Leavers’ Assembly where the Year 12’s entertained staff and students in Years 9 – 11.
The signature event of the Year 12’s final week at school is a Valedictory Celebration evening in the Allan Shaw Centre, a fitting celebration of the achievements and contributions of the graduating class to the School over many years. At the Valedictory Celebration, it was my privilege to speak on behalf of the School to wish the students well, with a particular focus on embracing all that life has to offer. We were delighted to welcome back Mr Ryan Walker, previously the Head of Year for this cohort, for the evening, and I know students were both surprised and delighted to see him. For many, the highlight of the evening was the speech from Mr Acott who managed to weave in numerous pearls of wisdom and cultural references in his heartfelt and humorous address. Following the formalities, families joined staff in the gymnasium for refreshments and photo opportunities. It was wonderful to see so many families, and former students enjoying the festivities and we wish all of our departing Year 12’s the very best for the road ahead!
Health Reminders
Over the past few weeks there has unfortunately been an increase in the number of Covid cases within our community. We ask all parents and guardians to keep this in mind and remember the value of social distancing and personal hygiene practices. Furthermore, we kindly ask that students who test positive to Covid and are symptomatic, are kept at home until their symptoms have resolved. Students that test positive but are asymptomatic can still attend School, however they should wear a mask as a courtesy to their peers. These measures are particularly important to minimise the risks for our senior students who are currently completing their exams and we appreciate your support in this regard.
World Teachers Day
On Friday 27 October we acknowledged World Teachers' Day with a special morning tea for all staff. Beyond delivering lessons, teachers are architects of knowledge, shaping young minds, igniting curiosity, and nurturing critical thinking skills. World Teachers' Day is a timely opportunity to recognise the crucial role teachers play in developing the minds of future generations, and the impact they have on preparing students for a rapidly evolving world. At Peter Moyes Anglican Community School we are blessed to have a dedicated and hard-working staff who strive daily to provide our students with engaging learning opportunities, and I commend each and every member of our team for their efforts in making this school a great place to teach and to learn.
Upcoming Events
Term 4 is always a busy part of the School year with many activities and events scheduled. I remind all families that the School Calendar via SEQTA and App notices are the best way to stay abreast of upcoming events. Of particular note, we are very much looking forward to the upcoming Art Exhibition and associated Twilight Markets on Friday 10 November. If you have not been before, the Art Exhibition is the culmination of a year of student achievement in Art with outstanding work on display from students across Kindergarten to Year 12. In conjunction with the Art Exhibition, the Twilight Markets are an opportunity for parents to browse a range of market stalls that will no doubt provide some inspiration for Christmas presents. In addition to these two great events, there will be student performances in the Allan Shaw Centre and across our grounds, food trucks on the North Veranda, along with face painting and assorted games on offer. It truly is a wonderful family afternoon and I encourage you to come along and experience firsthand a great event!
Finally, I remind parents that our end of year presentation events are fast approaching. Further details will be sent in due course, however, please save the following dates in your calendar:
Primary Prize Giving Celebration – Friday 8 December (morning)
Secondary Prize Giving Celebration – Thursday 7 December (evening)
I look forward to celebrating the successes of our students with you at these events.
Every Blessing.
Benjamin Lomas
