Principal's Notes
Welcome to the latest edition of the School Newsletter!
As I write my introduction to the latest edition of the School’s Newsletter, there is no doubt that students and staff are ready for a period of rest and refreshment that the forthcoming holiday period provides. Its no wonder given the broad range of events and activities over the past few weeks as highlighted in the following pages. We will also need our energy for upcoming events including Peter Moyes Day and the production of Aladdin Junior in August. Please be sure to keep an eye on our School App and Facebook page for details of all upcoming events.
In the coming days, parents will receive Semester Reports - a formal statement of your child’s academic progress - and we encourage you to view this in conjunction with the ongoing information that you receive from the School including work samples and feedback on assessments that are accessible via SEQTA. Should you have a concern with any aspect of your child’s report, please contact the relevant classroom teacher and/or the Head of Department.
STRESS DOWN DAY
On Thursday 22 June the School marked Stress Down Day with a free dress for staff and students. Our campus looked very different with many members of our community taking the opportunity to wear pyjamas or tracksuits to ‘dress down to stress down’. There was a range of stress down activities held across the day including a petting zoo, online games, therapy dogs, and live acoustic music at lunch time. This event is always enjoyed by students, and I am grateful for the work of the School Counsellors in putting together such a great range of activities. The event also doubled as a fundraising opportunity with close to $1000 raised for LIFELINE.
2022 YEARBOOK
The final edits are currently being made to the 2022 Yearbook, with distribution to families likely to occur early in Term 3. The development of The Yearbook is a team effort, and I acknowledge the work of all staff who have contributed to this labour of love. I especially acknowledge the work of Mrs Corrina Agostini who has once again led the process and continued to incorporate fresh ideas to showcase more students and events at our school.
ASC ROCK CONCERT
The annual Anglican Schools Commission (ASC) Rock Concert was recently held in the Allan Shaw Centre. Students from St Marks Anglican Community School, St James Anglican School, St Georges Anglican Grammar School, Swan Valley Anglican Community School, and Peter Moyes Anglican Community School took turns to perform a range of rock and pop classics. The event was enjoyed by a wide range of PMACS classes throughout the day, with the auditorium full for the last hour. I congratulate all students involved in the event and extend my thanks to the Head of Music, Mr Justin Tonti, for bringing the event to fruition, and the work of our Auditorium staff led by Mr Mitch Byrne, for their technical expertise.
YEAR 12 EVENTS
As our Year 12’s head to towards the final term of their secondary education, they have participated in the first two of their farewell events. On Monday 12 June, Year 12 Students and their Tutors met at Quinns Beach for a sunrise service. The weather fortunately held for brief reflective session that was followed by muffins and hot chocolate. This is the second iteration of the event and one enjoyed by all. The Head of Year, Parish Priest and Principal all said a few words; however the focus of the event was a chance for students to reconnect after exams and reset for their last few weeks of school. More recently, Year 12’s participated in a tree planting ceremony, with each house planting a tree on the edge of the North Oval. This is the 17th year that the Year 12 cohort has participated in a tree planting ceremony, an event that provides departing students a tangible and practical way to leave their mark on our school.
In concluding, I trust you will enjoy reading the latest edition of the School Newsletter and I wish all staff, students, and parents a period of recharge and refreshment across the July School Holidays.
Every Blessing.
Benjamin Lomas
