Principal's Notes
Welcome to the latest edition of the School Newsletter!
As the flu season approaches, we would like to draw your attention to the importance of keeping our school community healthy and safe. With the flu being highly contagious, and with covid numbers across the community also increasing, it is crucial that we take proactive measures to prevent the spread of illness among our students and staff. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by keeping children at home when they are unwell. By doing so, we not only prioritise their well-being but also demonstrate our commitment to the collective health of our school community. We encourage all families to take extra precautions at this time, including extra hand washing/sanitising, social distancing and wearing a mask as needed. Thank you for your support in this regard as we work together to maintain a healthy environment for all our students and staff members.
GROWN UPS WHO LOVE US
The "Grown Ups Who Love Us" activity morning held in the Primary School on Monday 8 May was a resounding success. Parents, grandparents, and other family members enthusiastically participated in a range of engaging and educational activities alongside their children. Families collaborated on science projects, explored the wonders of nature, played mathematical games, and showcased their artistic talents in collaborative art projects. The joyful laughter and sense of accomplishment filled the air as grown-ups and children bonded over their shared experiences. It was a heart-warming sight to witness the genuine love and support that the adults showered upon the students throughout the morning and I am grateful for the staff who coordinated the event and all adults who attended.
SUBJECT SELECTION EVENING
On Wednesday 17 May, the School hosted a subject selection evening for students currently in Year 8 – 10. This combined event is the first step for students as they consider subjects for 2024 and more broadly the academic pathways available at PMACS. It was wonderful to see so many parents and students in attendance and there was clear engagement in the various presentations as evidenced by the quality of questions asked and the number of parents who stayed behind at the end of the event for a chat. For those unable to attend the presentation, the slides from the evening are now available on the Parent Portal. We will also be in touch shortly with details on how Year 10 Parents can book a meeting with either our Careers Advisor, Mr Larry Parkes, or our VET Co-ordinator, Ms Nicol Davis. These meetings help provide students with clarity on the options available and the various pathways we have at PMACS. For all other subject selection queries, please contact the Associate principal for Teaching and Learning, Mrs Natalie Shaw.
TRAFFIC REMINDERS
As we head towards winter, I kindly ask all parents to be especially mindful of adhering to road rules at all times. As parents, you play a crucial role in teaching your children about road safety. By demonstrating responsible behaviour on the road, you instil in them the importance of following traffic rules and fostering a culture of safety. Of particular importance is adhering to the school zone speed limits, observing all crosswalks and pedestrian right of way, avoiding distraction while driving, and utilising designated parking and drop off zones. In addition, please abide by all signage including bus bay and kiss and ride zones. Ensuring the safety of our students is our utmost priority, and your cooperation in this matter is crucial.
OUTSTANDING SPORTS RESULTS
I am pleased to recognise and commend the exceptional achievements of our talented athletes in cross country running and interschool swimming. Our dedicated students have showcased their remarkable skills, determination, and sportsmanship, making us incredibly proud. At the ACC ‘B’ Division Swimming Carnival in late Term 1, PMACS came within 10 points of winning the overall competition and promotion to ‘A’ Division. This is a tremendous achievement, with the narrow margin sure to provide motivation for our team in 2024.
In cross country running, our Primary and Secondary students have set impressive times at the Interhouse Carnivals held on site over the past month. These carnivals are important precursors to interschool competitions, where PMACS has a history of excellent performance. Staff have been so impressed with the turnout for early morning training sessions over the past few weeks, with record numbers of students preparing for the upcoming events. Congratulations to our incredible athletes for their remarkable achievements to date, and we look forward to sharing further stories of success in the weeks ahead.
In concluding, I trust you will enjoy reading the latest edition of the School Newsletter and I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
Every Blessing.
