Principal’s Notes
Welcome to the latest edition of the School Newsletter! It has been another busy and productive term at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, highlighted by Peter Moyes Week celebrations, multiple sporting events, productions, incursions, camps and of course, a diverse and engaging curriculum and co-curricular programme. As I commented at the recent Honours Award Assembly for Secondary School, we are truly blessed in Western Australia that these types of events can proceed with limited or no restrictions.
Covid Vaccines
As recently communicated to relevant families, all Western Australian students aged 12 to 15 are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. The Department of Health has also announced that it is offering priority access for school students aged 16 years and over at WA Health clinics. More information about clinic locations can be found on the Healthy WA website. We also remind families that any concerns relating to Covid tests must be communicated to the School.
R U OK Day
R U OK Day was held on Thursday 9 September. The inclement weather prevented our usual picnic on the North Oval, however the students still got into the spirit of the day with indoor picnics and a range of activities during Tute time. Whilst the annual R U OK Day activities make for a wonderful event, we should always be conscious that our friends, family, and colleagues may be struggling. We regularly remind our students to not wait for R U OK day to check in with those they care about. We encourage them to make it an ongoing part of their life to be available for those in need, and in turn to be grateful for any support they themselves receive.
Secondary School Timetable
As previously advised, the Executive Team conducted an extensive review of the current Secondary Timetable during Semester One. The Executive Team ultimately determined that the School will move to a 65 minute timetable model in 2022, with five periods per day, plus pastoral care time. These changes were communicated to all families in June. Attention has since turned to the structure of the day and the timing of pastoral care. Heads of Department and Heads of Year have now been consulted, with a wide variety of options considered. The key focus will be a daily structure that maximises educational outcomes for all students, while maintaining the ability to deliver a quality pastoral care programme. More details regarding the daily schedule will be communicated to families in due course.
Traffic Update
The School was recently contacted by a staff member from Mindarie Senior College advising us that a student was nearly hit by a car doing a U-Turn using the Mindarie Senior College entrance on Elliston Parade. It is incumbent of parents from all three local schools to follow all traffic rules and not place student safety in jeopardy by taking short cuts. This message is being communicated to all three school communities. We continue to work with the City of Wanneroo to improve traffic flow around our School precinct and look forward to the road works commencing in December that should have an immediate impact on traffic flow. Any concerns parents have in relation to traffic issues in and around the School precinct should be reported to Main Admin.
Holidays and Exams
At the time of writing, many Year 12s were frenetically preparing for their Mock Exams. The finishing line is fast approaching and it is my hope that our Year 12s can maintain their focus for just a little bit longer to ensure they have the best chance of success throughout the exam period.
To all other students and indeed parents, I extend my sincere thanks for the contributions that you make on a daily basis. You truly make Peter Moyes Anglican Community School a wonderful place to teach and to learn.
In concluding, I would like to wish all families a restful school holiday break and I look forward to an enjoyable Term 4 as we celebrate the Graduation of our Year 12s and the outstanding achievements of our students at various end of year events.
Every Blessing.
Benjamin Lomas
