Principal's Notes
Welcome to the latest edition of the School Newsletter! While it has been a busy start to the year, it has also been a very positive one with students settling into class routines and meeting new friends and staff members.
To our returning families, thank you for your continued trust and partnership. Your ongoing support is the cornerstone of our success, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you in nurturing the potential of our students. And to our new families, we extend a heartfelt welcome and invite you to join us in making memories, forging connections, and building a brighter future together. As I often say to students, our school is one of opportunity and I am truly excited to see what the year ahead holds for each and every one of our students.
2023 WACE Results
I am pleased to report a snapshot of the WACE results for the graduating class of 2023 that have been analysed by the Associate Principal Teaching and Learning, Mrs Natalie Shaw. The cohort of ATAR students produced excellent results, with 33% of our ATAR students achieving an ATAR above 90, with a median ATAR score of 82.1. This is the 5th consecutive year that the School has recorded a median above 80. Pleasingly, we also saw five students recognised with a Certificate of Distinction and five with a Certificate of Merit.
Each year, the School recognises those students who have achieved an ATAR of 95 or higher. Of note was the 2023 School Dux Ryan MacDonald who achieved the highest ATAR rank in the cohort. The following students in alphabetical order will now be honoured on the '95 Club Honour Board’ in the School:
Rory Coplin
Molly Hilditch
Bailey Holding
Ryan MacDonald
Minh Tran
Beyond our ATAR pathway, 2023 saw an array of enrolment into Vocational Education Training (VET) certificates for our students. Offerings for students included sport, business, music, and creative industries certificates, with a total of 37 (40.64%) of students in the cohort enrolled in a certificate course. In 2023, 34 students (91.89%) of this group studied a Certificate II, two students (5.4%) studied a Certificate III and one student (2.70%) in this group studied a Certificate IV. When combined with our UniPrep Programme and various options for Workplace Learning and School-Based Traineeships, our students have so many ways to achieve their goals.
Car Park and e-Scooter Safety
I recently wrote to all families regarding car park safety and the use of e-scooters. The safety of our School community is paramount and with such a large number of parents, grandparents, students, and young siblings on the School grounds directly before and after school it is important that all school and traffic rules are followed to ensure everyone’s safety. For those driving to school, please be particularly mindful of the school zone speed limits and the limits on the internal road system. In addition, street and school signage should be adhered to at all times, including directional and parking signage. Similarly, with the increased number of students using e-scooters, all students should abide by the following guidelines:
• wear a helmet when riding to and from school,
• walk their scooters as soon as they leave the public footpath next to the road and enter School property,
• be mindful of pedestrians on public footpaths at all times, and
• ride their device appropriately and at safe speeds.
I appreciate your support with reinforcing these expectations with your child and encourage you to contact Main Admin with any concerns.
Parents and Friends Association
The annual AGM for the Parents and Friends Association was held on Wednesday 21 February. I am pleased to advise that the Committee for 2024 has been established and that Mrs Kylie Roemermann remains President. Mrs Jessie Kapitola and Mrs Samantha McMullen have been appointed as Vice Presidents, with Mrs Annemarie Creegan the Secretary. I am so very grateful to these parents, and all parents who give of their time voluntarily to enhance our School community. The P & F is already planning for some key events in 2024 including a Christmas in July celebration, a Quiz night, and a parent/child camp on the oval. The Association is always keen for new ideas, and I encourage interested parents to keep an eye on the School App for details of future meetings and I look forward to seeing parents at various P & F events across the year.
As we head towards Easter, I wish all families a safe and joyous holiday break. Please stay connected through our School App and Social Media pages and I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
Every Blessing.
Benjamin Lomas
