Principal's Notes
Over the past week it has been my privilege to present certificates and awards to students from all phases of learning in recognition of their hard work and dedication across 2021. Honours Assemblies and Presentation Evenings provide students with an opportunity to reflect on the year gone by and to consider the road ahead. In my various speeches at these events, I have asked students to consider the true meaning of Christmas and to have not only a sense of gratitude for the year that has been but also a sense of hope for the year to come. I congratulate all award winners for their excellent performances across 2021 and I sincerely thank all students for their contributions to Peter Moyes Anglican Community School; you truly make our school such a special place to teach and to learn.
Mandatory Vaccinations
Parents will be aware that the WA Government has mandated that all staff working in schools must be fully vaccinated against Covid by the start of the 2022 School Year. Further to this mandate, the WA Government has recently released more explicit directives in relation to Schools and mandatory vaccination. Of particular note is the definition of ‘Ad Hoc’ visitors. In essence, Ad Hoc visitors to schools are not required to be vaccinated. This includes parents doing drop off and pick up, attending assemblies or spectating at sports carnivals. Parents that are more regular visitors to the School, such as parent helpers and volunteers will need to be double vaccinated to continue being on site for extended periods of time. Further details regarding specific requirements for parents will be shared with the School Community in the coming weeks. While I understand that there is a broad range of views on this topic, the School is required to comply with the State Government directives, and we appreciate your support in keeping our community safe.
Twilight Markets and Tour
The annual Art Exhibition and Twilight Markets were held on Friday 12 November. The event continues to grow annually with an increase in the number of stalls and food vendors again this year. We were blessed with favourable weather conditions for the event, with visitors treated to some outstanding musical performances and artwork of the highest standard. One very successful aspect of the evening was our School tour for prospective parents. A total of 30 families booked in for our Twilight Tour, with an additional 20 families showing up on the night. As always, our student guides did a wonderful job and were well supported by members of the Executive Team. At the end of the tour, the Parish of Quinns-Butler provided refreshments which were very much appreciated. The Art Exhibition and Twilight Markets highlight for me what our school is all about: Community! With student participation from across the School, market stalls run by Alumni, parents and the broader community, food vendors coordinated by the Parents and Friends Association and the support of the Local Parish, this truly was a wonderful community event. Work is already underway on planning the 2022 iteration and we look forward to this event going from strength to strength.
Upcoming Roadworks
A quick reminder that there will be roadworks in our precinct over the Christmas period. As highlighted in previous newsletters, the City of Wanneroo is upgrading Quinns Road between Marmion Avenue and Salerno Drive to improve traffic flow. It is hoped that these works will be finalised by the time students return to school in 2022, thereby minimising disruptions. In conjunction with the roadworks, the School recently met with representatives from the City of Wanneroo to explore proactive options that staff, students and parents can undertake to help improve traffic flow around our school precinct. Pleasingly, representatives from Mindarie Senior College and Quinns Baptist College were also in attendance as we seek to work together to improve traffic flow. I hope to provide further updates on our discussions early in 2022.
Festive Season
As this is the final edition of the School Newsletter for the year, I would like to extend my thanks to Belinda Lockyer for her significant work in preparing and editing the School Newsletter in 2021. Belinda does a wonderful job in capturing and collating the multitude of activities that occur across our School and the broader community. Belinda is ably supported by Lauren Knapp and Corrina Agostini who are responsible for the majority of media content on the School’s Website and Social Media pages.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all School families the compliments of the Season. May God’s Peace be with you all as we head towards a well-earned break. To all students, stay safe and take care over the holidays. We look forward to seeing you refreshed and invigorated in 2022 for another big year at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School.
Every Blessing.
Benjamin Lomas
