Principals Notes
Welcome to the latest edition of the School Newsletter! As I write my notes for the latest edition, I have been reflecting on the events of the past week. We have had Year 10 Exams, a Upper Primary Assembly, a tree planting ceremony for our Year 12 Leavers, the Anglican Schools Commission Rock Concert, a Year 7 Drama and Dance performance, Hungry Hippos Competition for Primary House Point winners, final rehearsals for Snapshot Youth Theatre Company’s latest production, ‘Bed Bugs’, CAS Sport semi-finals, a visit from Maths Pathway leaders and the NIPSSA Cross Country Carnival. These activities are but a sample of the holistic education we provide at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, where our focus is on providing multiple opportunities for students to shine, whatever their strengths and passions may be.
2021 YEARBOOK
Distribution of the 2021 Yearbook has commenced and I trust that students and families alike are enjoying a look back on the busy and exciting happenings of last year. The development of The Yearbook is a team effort, and I acknowledge the work of all staff who have contributed to this labour of love. I especially acknowledge the work of Mrs Corrina Agostini who led the process and has refreshed the look of the Yearbook to incorporate different focus areas and provide space for more photos. I am sure that you will agree the new look is vibrant and engaging! Please contact main administration if you have not yet received your copy of The Yearbook.
SEMESTER REPORTS
At the time of writing, teachers are busily preparing Semester Reports. These reports will be distributed electronically prior to the July School Holidays. Semester Reports are a formal statement of your child’s progress, and we encourage you to view this in conjunction with the ongoing information that you receive from the School including work samples and feedback on assessments that are accessible via SEQTA. There has been a greater focus on the extent and quality of continuous feedback in 2022 to build the learning capacity of our students. This is a key component of the Visible Learning journey the School has been undertaking over the past two years and I am excited by the progress that has already been made. Should you have a concern with any aspect of your child’s report, please contact the relevant classroom teacher and/or the Head of Department.
SUBJECT SELECTION EVENING
On Tuesday 7 June, the School hosted a subject selection evening for students in Year 8 – 10 and I would like to thank all students and parents who attended. This was the first time that the event had been combined and we were overwhelmed with the positive response. A different format was adopted for the evening, with the entire group initially gathered together for an overview of the different pathways at PMACS. The group then split into year levels for more targeted presentations. There was a palpable buzz on the evening, evidenced by the quality of questions asked and the number of parents who stayed at the end of the event for a chat. Post event, It has been wonderful our Careers Coordinator, Mr Larry Parkes, has been meeting with Year 10 parents to assist with the subject selection process. These meetings help provide students with clarity on the options available and the various pathways we have at PMACS.
YIPIRINYA SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITY
Reverend Jean-Pierre Schroeder and Health and Physical Education Teacher Kristina Oxley recently visited Yipirinya School in Alice Springs to explore a potential service learning partnership. Yipirinya School is a small school that delivers two curriculums: an Aboriginal Curriculum and the Australian Curriculum. The visit was very successful, with the Principal of Yipirinya keen to develop an ongoing relationship. I have asked Reverend Schroder and Kristina to work on a proposal for a student trip in July 2023. The trip would include working with younger students, a visit to a local community, and sightseeing opportunities including Uluru and Ormiston Gorge. The first trip will be targeted towards senior students, although future iterations may include younger students. Further details will be shared with families in due course.
In concluding, I trust you will enjoy reading the latest edition of the School Newsletter and I wish all staff, students, and parents a period of recharge and refreshment across the July School Holidays.
Every Blessing.
Benjamin Lomas
