The School is seeking a driven, enthusiastic and innovative Auditorium Manager to join our team in 2025. The role will oversee and lead the daily operations of our state of the art performance venue, the Allan Shaw Centre.

The Allan Shaw Centre is a dynamic, multi-purpose space that supports a range of School bookings, including services, assemblies, productions and exhibitions. Additionally, the venue is a sought after cultural hub within the northern corridor, regularly hosting large scale events including concerts, gala dinners, ceremonies and international dance competitions.

The successful applicant will be responsible for encouraging the use of the Allan Shaw Centre Auditorium within the School and its wider community and managing its day-to-day operations.

Reporting to the Business Manager, the key aspects of this role include the planning and production of all internal and external client based events, including lighting design and programming, sound, staging, multimedia and projection, and for promoting the hire of the centre amongst the wider community.

This ongoing position is a full time role and involves working evening, late night and weekend work. Start date by negotiation.

Experience / Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a theatre environment or similar role.
  • Previous experience managing internal and external client event bookings.
  • Experience of live sound mixing (preferably using the Allen and Heath SQ7 desk as well as analogue sound desks).
    Conversant with the MA DOT2 lighting console.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate positive relationships with all stakeholders and capability to visualise and translate stakeholder ideas.
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively with all members of the School community and clients of the Allan Shaw Centre.
  • Ability to successfully manage a number of diverse tasks in a pressurised environment.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, planning and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Capable and competent financial, organisational and resource management skills and the capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills with the ability to successfully manage a number of diverse tasks in a busy school environment.
  • Good keyboard and data input skills.

Desirable Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate may also have:
  • A tertiary qualification in Technical Theatre or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a school setting.

Responsibilities 

School Use

  • Manage the daily schedule of the Auditorium.
  • Co-ordinate all bookings for the Auditorium, including School Assemblies and Chapel Services.
  • Liaise with staff as to their requirements and use of the Auditorium.
  • Co-ordinate all technical activities.
  • Oversee the use of the School’s technical equipment, audio, lighting, visual rigging etc.
  • Construct and/or assist in the construction of sets for the dramatic production and other events.
  • Ensure the Auditorium operates in a safe and efficient manner, at all times adhering to Occupational Health and Safety requirements in the workplace.
  • Ensure the maintenance and operation of all equipment and facilities used in the Auditorium.
  • When appropriate teach and supervise students in the technical and front of house operations of the Auditorium.
  • Co-ordinate other functions held at the Auditorium including special events.
  • Co-ordinate technical support for other events occurring elsewhere on campus.
Public Use
  • Devise and implement a strategic plan to develop and market the Auditorium on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide a strong customer-relations focus.
  • Co-ordinate all booking activities for the Auditorium.
  • Calculate and estimate costs and budgets for external clients.
  • Supervise the use of the Auditorium to meet Occupational Health and Safety specifications.
  • Co-ordinate and manage casual staff.
General 
  • Undertake market research and purchase equipment.
  • Prepare an annual Budget for the Auditorium.
  • Engage in professional reading and development as part of continual professional learning.
  • Report regularly to the Principal and Business Manager.
  • Abide by the Staff Code of Conduct and other School policies.
  • Other duties as required by the Principal.

Please note that the position will involve frequent evening and weekend work.
