On 8th March 2018, the Middle School House Captains went to the Perth Exhibition Centre for the Young Leaders Day conference run by Halogen. The Young Leaders Day conference is a day where lots of young leaders from the surrounding school area came together to learn about how to be a good leader. We heard from lots of speakers including John Coutis, Sarah Jamieson, Andrew Embley and Rick Ardon. These inspirational people all had their ways of expressing to us of how to be a worthy leader.
John Coutis was born with Spina Bifida, a disease that causes the body to develop without a spine below the ribs, and was bullied as a child because of his disability. He told us that no matter who the person is, to love them. To tell the people that are close to you that you love them before it is too late.
Sarah Jamieson was an Olympic 1500m runner for Australia, she talked to us about setting goals and persisting to try to achieve those goals.
Andrew Embley, the former West Coast Eagles player, talked to us about working together as a team and working hard to achieve your goals.
Rick Ardon, the Channel 7 news Anchor, talked to us about how your words can be harming someone when you did not even know, to fulfil your talents and dreams as well as influencing people in a positive way.
These inspirational people all helped us know what it is like to be great leader.
