On Monday 12th September, the Year 9 girls participated in an event which has, in recent years, become almost a rite of passage as the young women transition from Middle to Senior School. The Year 9 Girls’ Afternoon Tea provided the perfect opportunity for female students to gather with both their peers and significant women in their lives to be inspired and motivated by the story of a positive role model within the community.
This year, we had the privilege to share the day with our guest speaker, Caitlin Bassett, from the West Coast Fever and Australian Diamonds Netball Team. Caitlin is well-known to most of us as the Goal Shooter for the West Coast Fever and Australian Diamonds Netball Team. She made her international debut in 2008 and the Australian team is the current World and Commonwealth Games champion.
Caitlin shared her personal story of growing up tall and gangly, eventually finding sporting success. She made it clear that international sporting success, like other dreams, is only achieved with sacrifice and hard work and some setbacks along the way. Caitlin reminded the girls that they should be proud of their differences, learn from their role-models and support teams they have around them and never give up on what they really want to achieve.
This afternoon was greatly enjoyable due to the efforts of the Café staff, who provided delicious bite-sized savouries and fancy cakes, which were thoroughly appreciated as well as presenting such a lovely looking room. In addition to this, we also give our thanks to Mr Frankish and Mr Connolly who helped set the room and organised the sound.
