This term, our Year 6 students were given the task of collaboratively creating a Market Stall to raise money for charity. They started by identifying the different ways that businesses provide goods and services and chose the most appropriate method for their group’s business or service to raise revenue at the charity event. Students focussed upon the community issue of disadvantaged youth and identified the ‘Wishing Tree’ project as their nominated charity. They set about planning for and creating an array of different stalls, each one considering the effect of consumer and financial decisions on individuals, the community and the environment.
Whilst creating their imaginative, vibrant stalls students needed to identify the factors that could potentially influence consumer decisions when making choices, and the consequences of those choices for both their business and the consumer. Each business stall possessed its own unique flair and characteristics and all were very well received by the discerning primary student consumers. The day was a huge success, raising well over $3000 which will be carefully spent (by our hardworking students) on items for the “Wishing Tree” recipients in the local community.
