The Year 5 and 6 students competed in this year’s Lightning Carnival on Friday 8th June, travelling to various venues across the northern suburbs.

The Lightning Carnival Day was the culmination of this year’s winter sport programme, with students choosing to participate in sports including Australian Rules Football, Soccer, League Tag, Hockey and Netball. The emphasis of the Lightning Carnival is on fun and participation. Hopefully, through this experience, students will be encouraged to make the most of the many clubs and organisations that offer sport within our community.

The students performed superbly and the hours of training clearly paid off. Many of the Peter Moyes ACS teams even managed to remain undefeated throughout the whole day. The way the students conducted themselves was a credit to the school and their families. The support, encouragement and sportsmanship shown meant the day was a huge success for everyone involved.

I could not run this programme without the help and support of many other people and would sincerely like to thank the following groups for their support:

• The many staff who gave up their time to organise and coach the teams.
• The parent volunteers who assisted staff with training and managing teams on the carnival day.
• Mrs. Bev Goosen for helping organise and run the hockey event.
