Throughout Term 1 Beach School, the Year 3 students displayed a love for learning about sharks. They wanted to learn all about the shark barrier at Quinns Beach, they formed opinions about shark culling and investigated different types of sharks and why some sharks are endangered. To further their learning, we decided to have a sleepover at AQWA.
On 5th April 2018, 62 very excited Year 3 students went to AQWA. Straight away, they headed down stairs to set up their beds, then upstairs to dinner. After dinner the students split up into three groups to complete activities including exploring the mini aquariums, the large aquarium and craft activities. The students enjoyed walking around the aquariums asking the marine biologist questions to further their shark projects.
To wind down the students watched Moana. At around 10:00pm, the students walked down to the large aquarium where the conveyor belt had stopped and the airbed were ready. The students were laying in their beds watching the huge stingrays, sharks and fish swimming overhead.
The Year 3 students were up at 6:00am the next morning. They packed up, had breakfast and went straight outside to learn all about the turtles, coral and have fun in the touch pool.
The AQWA sleepover was amazing and something the students will never forget.
