From Monday 7th to Wednesday 9th May 2018, the Year 12 General Outdoor Education students completed a 2 night, 3 day hiking camp on the Bibbulmun Track in Ashendon, WA. The students had been preparing for the 35km hike since Week 7 of Term 1 and had the important task of choosing the hiking route, lunch stops and overnight campsites.

With a last minute route change due to proposed burning off on some parts of the track, the students were ready to go by 7:00am Monday morning. The class were assessed on a number of Outdoor Education aspects including leadership, assertiveness, group dynamics, environmental practices and camping/navigational skills. For a lot of the students, walking through the bush for 3 days without any shower facilities and using a long drop toilet, put them completely out of their comfort zone!

After a long 3 days with sore legs and aching shoulders, we finished the camp off with a quick lunch stop at McDonalds and Hungry Jacks in Kelmscott which excited all the students.

Thank you to Mr West and Dylan Sarolea for assisting on the camp!
