The Year 12 ATAR students are very busy at present, working to complete their final studio projects for their end of course exhibition and for WACE submission. Interestingly, all have chosen Ceramics as their studio focus area. PMACS students are really beginning to shine in this area and we are becoming known for our high standard of Ceramic Sculpture; Three of our Year 11 and 12 students Brooke Lamb, Brigitte Mostert and Cheranne Heyworth were selected for North Metro TAFE’s “META” exhibition in Perth City. This is an achievement itself. However, further to this, Brooke Lamb’s and Cheranne Heyworth’s art pieces received commendations from the Judges for their excellent work!
The Visual Arts Department are also celebrating the success of our Advanced Year 10 students who have also selectively entered the Lester Prize (formerly the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture). Our Katrina Wyer (Year 10) has been selected by external Judges as a Youth Finalist for this. Good luck Katrina!
Year 7 students are working hard making clay houses based on a variety of architectural styles to inform their own new and creative pieces. Year 8 students are emulating the style of well-known Western Australian artist Fleur Schell in making small figurines to represent themselves.
Year 9s are experiencing the Semester 2 Electives in Visual Arts: Comic Arts, Printmaking and 3D Construction and well into the first major projects for these subjects.
This year’s Annual Art Exhibition, which occurs in Term 4 Week 5 will showcase many of these artworks, so I would encourage you to ask your child about their current work in the art room and whether they have already had some work selected for exhibition.
More information about this year’s exhibition will be released soon, so keep an eye out for it! It is going to be spectacular!
