On Friday 7th August, the year 12 UniPrep Students, Mrs Flanigan and I visited Edith Cowan University to get a brief taste of student life. Students took part in a cybersecurity workshop entitled ‘Hack the Box’ with Dr Michelle Ellis, where they looked for patterns, applied mathematical skills and used logic to crack codes. They also took part in ‘The Amazing Race’ where they explored the wonders of ECU in small groups; the winners were Team ‘Spuds’ consisting of Chantay Brondsema, Amy Carter, Jake Minear and Jazmin Skoglund. To top the morning off, the students were able to receive their ECU card which allows them to use ECU facilities from now on.
Some positive student feedback:
“The excursion to ECU was an eye-opener to how big and inclusive the campus is; the activities we did in the cybersecurity section and the amazing race around the campus, enabled us to learn a lot about the university. It was a great day learning about different things the campus has to offer.” Amy Carter.
"Was a delightful day, the tour gave me a new perspective of university, very excited to apply in the foreseeable future." Anonymous.
“The UniPrep excursion was really beneficial because it gave us a chance to explore the campus and have an idea of what to look forward to next year at university.” Zoe Bushell.
“Throughout the Uniprep excursion it was enlightening to discover the new and innovative ways that science at ECU is perceived. I have found it extremely helpful in deciding what I would like to study in my future years into university”. Chloe Kolzan.
A great morning was had by all. Many thanks to Selena Tenakov (UniPrep Secondary Schools Co-ordinator) for organising this event.
