In a term which sees many "lasts" for the year 12 cohort, the ATAR Geography students walked a section of the coast from the rocky headland south of Portofinos to Quinns Beach.
The aim was to examine the sustainable use of the coast. The damages to the natural environment resulting from short suburban setbacks from the 1950s were contrasted to those where the setbacks were greater than 150 metres. Students gained much from directly observing the environment, allowing them to apply course knowledge about climate change.
Although starting off observations with a very chilly wind, the day's weather improved for the 50 strong cohort, who enjoyed their half day in the outdoor classroom.
