On Wednesday 5 February, the School marked the start of it’s 20th Anniversary celebrations with a special welcome ceremony. The Ceremony was a celebration of our Christian Anglican tradition and the traditions of the Aboriginal community as custodians of the land upon which Peter Moyes Anglican Community School is built. A smoking ceremony is an ancient aboriginal custom that involves burning various native plants to produce smoke. For Aboriginal people, this smoke has cleansing properties for both the people and the land, to make a pathway for a brighter future.
We are very grateful that local Aboriginal member Shaun Nannup was able to be with us today to perform the smoking ceremony.
