On Monday 30th October, the Year 8 students had the pleasure of experiencing the ‘Poetry in Action’ group perform ‘The Paper Tiger’. ‘The Paper Tiger’ was a story about a budding poet and her new found friend, who was a delinquent delivery truck driver. The pair journey through many adventures and mishaps such as a zombie apocalypse, a bicycle journey with Mulga Bill which, of course, ended up in Dead Man’s Creek and finally a ‘rap battle’ style encounter with the mischievous Paper Tiger himself! Throughout the performance, we learnt all about various poetic techniques including, rhyme, rhythm, alliteration and imagery. Of course, we also learnt how NOT to use clichés in our writing! Poor Amy ended up with cliché spew all over her! (Metaphorically of course).
Overall, the performance was exciting, humorous and enjoyable. Oliver, Maddy and Lauren from the Poetry in Action group were such fantastic performers and it was nice to be able to ask them questions about the performance and what they do - we even made an appearance on their Facebook page! It was also interesting to hear about their tour. They are originally from Sydney, but travel to schools all throughout Australia to perform to students, bringing Poetry to life!
Thanks to Mr Borrello and Ms Edgar for organising this event and for teaching us all about Poetry in our English lessons.
