Year 9 students have been studying conservation in Indonesian, particularly the concern about palm oil production and deforestation in Sumatera and Kalimantan. Amongst other activities, Year 9 students created batik eco-bags as part of fundraising and awareness issues. Eloise Van Maris, Eloise Tedesco, Yasmin Furse and Meghan Ferret organised a bake sale to raise money to adopt two orphaned baby orangutan and produced a video for Middle School to raise awareness of the plight of the orangutan. A total of $226.50 was raised, which will go towards adopting two baby orangutan and Anglicare. ‘Orang hutan’ is an Indonesian phrase literally meaning “person of the jungle”.
