Term 4 sees the Fourth of the Schools Mental Health and Well-being days, where we strive to promote good mental health through positive behaviours. Odd Socks day is a national mental health anti stigma campaign. Stigma associated with mental illness is still the biggest barrier to people seeking help and recovery. On 27th October students were encouraged to wear off socks to School to help ‘stomp out’ the stigma.
The new Student Leadership Team for 2018 worked together to develop activities for House Tutorials and presented information to the cohort regarding the types of mental health issues and the reason behind our School’s promotion of positive behaviours for good mental health. We had a pin the sock on the heffalump activity, an odd sock parade with a prize for the student with the best odd sock combination and the guess the number of socks in the jar. The House Tutorial with the winning guess, won a large jar of lollies….two Tutes happened to guess the correct number of socks, so we had to quickly put together another jar of lollies for the other tute. There were a number of interesting strategies as to how to come to an educated guess, but congratulations goes to the two winning tutes for guessing ‘42’. The Winner of the Fantastic Sock Parade was Year 10 Shae who had the most fabulous pair of odd socks. At lunch time there was a competition for the most number of socks that could be put on in 30 secs. This competition was hotly contested by twin brothers in Year 11 and many other students trying to out number each other… First place went to Sam with a grand effort of 14 socks on one foot and Josh and Holly also did very well and got second and third prizes.
Thank you to all the students who wore odd socks in an effort to support the promotion of good mental health through positive behaviours.
