In November 2017, a ruling came out from the governing body, Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), stating that in order to issue any VET certificates, the Registered Training Organisations (RTO) must retain and check all student assessments.

This has implications for Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, and all Schools in WA; namely:
• Schools must submit all student work at their cost to the RTO;
• All Student work must be checked by the RTO before certificates are issued; and
• Any errors in the evidence must be rectified, re-submitted and re-checked before certificates are issued.

Therefore, any students who completed a full or partial certificate in 2017, are in the unfortunate position where the School is waiting for the RTO to check last year’s assessments. Two outcomes will then follow:
1. Students will receive their certificate; or
2. Students must re-submit work (even if they are no longer studying that unit or have left the School);

In 2018, we will be submitting some evidence prior to the completion of the course to ensure a timely receipt of evidence to the RTO. However, one of the same two outcomes will apply for this years’ students:

1. Students will receive their certificate; or
2. Students must re-submit work (even if they are no longer studying that unit or have left the School).

The School realises the imposition that this may cause students and families, as well as VET staff at the School; however, we are bound by the regulations of ASQA.

Throughout Terms 3 and 4 teachers of VET classes will be asking students review their past and present assessments to ensure that every detail has been completed to enable their receipt of the their certificate. Examples of these details include filling forms with dates, signatures and/or re-submitting any incorrect answers or missing evidence.

It is hoped that you will appreciate that we are doing everything in our power to properly work through the full completion of Units and request that students follow the teacher’s instructions to the letter, in order to receive their full or partial certificates.
