One of the roles of the Library is to provide students with access to a selection of texts that can support and help develop their understanding of curriculum programmes. With Protective Behaviours a compulsory part of the School curriculum, the Library would like to highlight for students and parents the availability of resources in this area.
When selecting non-fiction texts we consider how they can aid students in the development of factual knowledge, as well as offer links to support available for students. With fiction texts, we hope to increase this understanding by providing texts with contemporary and wide ranging voices that can present without bias, with confidentiality and offer a different point of view. To those who may feel marginalised by their situations, we anticipate these resources will provide the opportunity for them to make judgements of circumstances in a non-threatening, one-step removed place of safety- a provision fiction books have always offered.
Titles from the Senior Library include topics such as bullying, cyberbullying and sexting, violence and abuse, sexuality and gender issues. Some of the resources available to students are categorised and restricted due to their graphic or mature concept content.
Should you have any questions pertaining to these resources, please feel free to contact Mrs Danielle Palmer- Smith at dpalmersmith@pmacs.wa.edu.au.
