On Friday, 5th August, the Senior School held a Charity Day to raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation. Leukaemia is a cancer which starts in blood-forming tissue, usually the bone marrow. It leads to the over-production of abnormal white blood cells, the part of the immune system which defends the body against infection.
Money was raised firstly by a gold coin donation for the themed free dress of the day which was ‘Around the World’. Dress up outfits ranged from Australian surf lifesaving to Mexican ponchos and gentlemen in Japanese robes. We also had a huge bake sale at recess and lunchtime, a sausage sizzle, merchandise sales, café meal deals, sport activities and a paper plane making contest in our House tutorial groups.
Events like this do not happen without the support of all staff and students across the School. A special thanks to my offsider Aidan Green for his tireless work assisting me with the merchandise sales. Also, thank you to my fellow House Captains and the Heads of House for their efforts in making the day such a great success.
I am grateful to have been given this incredible opportunity to help others and would like to encourage everyone to continue helping those in need and to keep giving without expecting something in return. We raised a total of $1,562.80 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
