Term 3 saw the Kindy children inquiring about ‘Community’ and what makes a community work. They identified essential services and the people required to make these run. Not only did the children focus on the well-known amenities such as Ambulance, Police and Fire (from which we had a visit), but they discovered that jobs such as growers, farmers and shopkeepers were needed to help sustain a community. A trip to the strawberry farm ensured the children understood that someone needs to grow the produce to sell - it doesn’t magically appear in the shops!
From this experience the children decided to put their own entrepreneurial skills to the test and make their own products to sell at a Market Day. A successful morning was had and the children made $338 which they kindly donated to the Quinns Rocks Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club which enabled them to purchase 6 brand new lifesaving buoys.
