After weeks of intense competition, the Inter-House Debating Grand Final was held on Thursday, 15th September. The topic for the debate was ‘The technological revolution has done more harm than good’.
Durack House (represented by Amy Hudson, Nicole Tomlinson and Jake Alderson) were victorious over Lingiari House (represented by Paige Howells, Declan Waters and Chloe Saunders) in a very close decision.
Debating gives students the opportunity to consider and discuss issues that are relevant in society today. Examples of topics covered over the course of the competition include ‘That the police should hold the DNA of all Australians on a national database’ and ‘That Hollywood movies should be true to history’.
Other benefits of the Debating include the development of important skills such as the ability to work as part of a team and public speaking.
