North Coast Times, Aiden Shows Great Presence, Tuesday 29th November 2016.
A Quinns Rocks boy has rallied his kindergarten classmates to help collect toys and books for disadvantaged children.
After hearing about The Smith Family’s appeal, five-year-old Aiden Doughty decided to help and encourage his Peter Moyes Anglican Community School classmates to buy presents for other children.
“I decided to get Lego and toys and everybody is getting toys,” he said.
“I bought this Lego because I thought it would be good for a kid.”
Adding Christmas started with baby Jesus and was about family as well as Santa and elves, Aiden said there was a condition for receiving gifts.
“No kids are allowed to have presents if they are naughty,” he said.
“If I’m naughty at Christmas, Santa might give me ’tatoes or coal.”
The Smith Family has appealed for 45,000 new toys and 30,000 new books to deliver to almost 15,000 children around Australia this December.
“It’s also about enabling positive experiences in the home and community which allow young people to feel included – that’s why we distribute toys and books at Christmas time,” WA general manager Lorna Woodley said.
