There has been no stopping the students in Drama and Dance this term with a full range of activities and experiences that have engaged, enthused, entertained and educated them!
The first week of school began with auditions for our 20th Anniversary School Production of We Will Rock You. The students demonstrated such talent in the disciplines of singing, dancing and acting and as we are now well into our rehearsal process, we are all very excited by the progress we are making. The cast and their families were also treated recently to a special performance by the powerhouse Duo AViiDA, who sung a medley of songs from the show. AViiDA were finalists in the Voice in both 2012 and 2015, and it was a privilege to have them perform in the Alan Shaw Centre.
The Year 10 Drama students have also enjoyed an incursion with the very talented Shane from ‘Into the Mask’, where the students participated in a Commedia dell ‘Arte workshop. They are currently studying the history of Theatre and this opportunity gave them a very practical understanding of the characters, scenarios and physical theatre in this form of Italian Comedy.
The Year 11 ATAR, Year 11 General and Year 12 General Drama students were involved in the Independent Schools Drama Association Drama Day at Scotch College on 25 February. They had the wonderful opportunity to work with Drama students from Scotch College, St Mary’s AGS, Mandurah Baptist College, John Septimus Roe ACS, St Hilda’s, Methodist Ladies College, Christchurch Grammar School and Iona Presentational College. The students were taught by a range of industry professionals in the fields of movement, acting and improvisation. It was a very beneficial experience for all involved and one the students will draw on throughout their studies.
The Drama and Dance Department are now looking to the School Production Camp, The Year 10-12 Drama Performance Evening, an excursion to the 2020 Arts Perspectives at the concert Hall, not to mention all the fun and engaging units of work we are studying in class from Year 7 to 12.
