On Sunday 12th March, Jake Alderson (Head Boy) and I had the privilege of representing Peter Moyes at the Commonwealth Day Observance which took place at St George’s Cathedral. The theme for this year was “A Peace-building Commonwealth”. Alongside students from other Christian Domination schools in Perth, we each carried flags from one of the countries of the Commonwealth. Jake and I carried the flags for Canada and Nigeria.

The service was very enjoyable, interesting and a very valuable experience; although St George’s is an Anglican church, a woman representing the Baha’i faith talked to us during the Observance, which highlighted the diversity of religions and cultures we are privileged to experience in Western Australia. The music that evening was phenomenal too; the small choir created such a beautiful, reverent atmosphere. The evening was a splendid celebration of the international friendships which our Commonwealth supports and one that we thoroughly enjoyed.

It often seems that the world desperately needs peace, so it was an honour and a pleasure to promote peace and friendship between nations and cultures at St George’s Cathedral.
