Tony David and my Dad (Rick) visited the School on 23rd August. If you did not know already, Tony David is the 2002 BDO World Darts Champion, and is on a comeback following bad health.
He told us a bit about himself and how he came to become one of the best. He also told us never to give up on our dreams and that he had had a major operation, but he lived through it all! He told us how he started darts, when he was about 25 and when he won two world titles. He taught me and some other students some great techniques, and my Dad taught my fellow students some techniques and how to throw better. We played some games that helped improve our maths.
Tony told us a funny story on how he started playing darts by accident. He was in a pub and he had a bet to see who was going to win a game of darts. Tony had never played darts before; he had always tried to get trophies in 8-ball, but never succeeded. The person bet about $5 on winning the game, so did Tony and at the end of the games, Tony had won about $50. After that, he put all of his effort into darts and eventually became champion and World number one. However, sadly, he got sick, and then had to have his operation.
Tony told us how his dad was a professional football player, his mum was a professional tennis player and his grandad was a good cricket player. The other students and I had a really enjoyed the experience and liked being shown tricks and techniques.
