On Wednesday, 20th of June, Peter Moyes Anglican Community School hosted the Sixth Anglican Schools Commission Piano Competition. Nine WA ASC schools were involved, namely Peter Moyes ACS, St James ACS, Swan Valley ACS, John Septimus Roe ACS, Peter Carnley ACS, St Marks ACS, Frederick Irwin ACS, John Wollaston ACS, St George’s Anglican Grammar School, and Trinity Anglican School from NSW.
Over 150 piano students played in front of four adjudicators namely Tracie Wootton, David Finch, Kristina Browning and Penny Black. The event comprised 12 morning heats in 6 different categories with the winners going through to the final at 12:30pm. When students were not competing they were able to practise, socialise or relax with computer and wii games or enjoy some good food and drink. The 2017 winner of the inaugural eastern States ASC Piano Competition, Thomas Summerfield, was also a finalist in this event making this for, the first time, a national event.
The event was emceed by our PMACS Head Boy and Girl, Arnav Sinha and Chloe Saunders. The Reverend Peter Laurence OAM announced and presented prizes to the overall winners, with Chantelle Tran from John Septimus Roe ACS being awarded first place. She will now be invited to perform at our Combined ASC Concert at the Perth Concert Hall on 7th September, 2018.
We give special thanks to all of the students who competed and their families and teachers, as well as the student helpers and PMACS staff who also assisted in so many different ways including catering, supervising, cleaning and technical work. We thank the school administration, the ASC and the ASC Heads/Directors of Music for their ongoing support and assistance. We especially thank Andrew Frankish and Ji Deeg for a variety of roles including sound/video/photography and Bronwyn Booth whose work in organising us all was once again hugely appreciated.
Certificates of participation, trophies and medallions and a highlights video of the event will shortly be sent to the schools. It was a great opportunity for our ASC piano students to showcase their extraordinary piano playing skills and enjoyment of music.
A huge well done to all!
