Meditation forms an important part of our Anglican Schools Commission Religious Studies Curriculum as part of the ‘Worship Prayer and Meditation’ Strand. In a world that is increasingly complex and with many demands made on individuals, the ability to take time in silence, with God, is a useful skill. The Anglican Schools Commission is in the process of creating a number of short videos to assist schools in Religious Education curriculum delivery. Students from Peter Moyes Anglican Community School recently played a role in the creation of a two videos on meditation, one for Primary School and one for Secondary School.
On June 8th this year, a small group of students from across the three Sub Schools were accompanied by the Reverend Jean-Pierre and Ms Pilton to Wollaston Theological College in Mt Claremont. There, we joined with students from St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls and Peter Carnley Anglican Community School in a range of filming situations. Students were interviewed individually about their experience with meditation then were filmed using the labyrinth, a focused form of walking meditation. Following this, students were filmed participating in a small meditation in the Chapel.
All students conducted themselves in an exemplary fashion and provided thoughtful and meaningful responses during their interviews. We look forward to seeing the end results later this year and being able to use the videos as part of our teaching tools.
