As Term Three comes to a close, it always surprises me how quickly the year has passed, with only one short term left in the academic year! Our School is a very busy place and we are fortunate for all it has to offer our students. We once again welcomed students from the Margie School in Surabaya, Indonesia to join us for two weeks on a cultural exchange. The six students and their teacher, Ibu Gita, settled in well and experienced the wide variety of activities and sightseeing that Perth has to offer by our Indonesian department and their amazing host families! The students, one who had returned from last year, participated fully in our activities for Languages Week and displayed their musical and dancing talents at our Indonesian Assembly, performing a traditional dance and singing two songs- one in Indonesian and one in English.
We continue to work with the mental health and wellbeing charity ‘zero2hero’; Mrs Emily Kerins, the Middle School Counsellor, and I joined a group of Year 9 students at ‘In Your Head’ mental health day held at Pert Concert Hall. It was a great day with some very inspiring speakers. The charity also offer workshops for students and our Year 9 students participated in a ‘Love Yourself’ session on Monday of this week.
We end the term with Year 8 Camp on Wednesday to Friday this week at Swan Valley Adventure Centre. We look forward to another of our ‘rites of passage’, a chance to unplug the technology, be outside in nature, promoting friendship, and positive mental and physical wellbeing. We will enjoy our time together and enjoy some of our sensational Spring weather.
Next term I will be taking Long Service Leave and I will leave the Middle School in the very safe and capable hands of Mrs Christine Hiotis. I wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to being back at the start of 2020.
