The Art Department are delighted to announce that Brooke Lamb (Year 11) has been selected as a finalist in the 2018 Yolande Frank Art Awards hosted by the United Nations Association of Australia, Western Australian Division (UNAAWA).
The winners of the prize will be announced at their annual Peace Day celebration on Sunday 23rd September in Subiaco. Brooke’s work will also be published in the 2019 Human Rights Education Calendar. Some entries may also be selected for inclusion in the Museum of Freedom and Tolerance event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
We would also like to congratulate Holly James (Year 12), Ruby Campbell (Year 10) and Gemma Boyd (Year 10) on their entries being selected to represent the school.
The judges commented on the high standard achieved by all students this year. UNAAWA members believe that human rights education contributes to building student self-esteem and confidence. These attributes provide a foundation for understanding and tolerance of others.
Further to this, Holly James’ Semester One ATAR artwork ‘Adrift’ has been selected to be included in a virtual exhibition for the Museum of Freedom and Tolerance, curated by CEO Shaheen Hughes. This is a commendable achievement for Holly and a reflection of the powerful message that her artwork communicates about the plight of refugees.
